Introduction

Here are a series of select exercises from the CGMA - Level Design for Games course.
I thoroughly enjoyed the course and received feedback weekly from Max Pears.
It gave name and function to techniques I was doing and really broke down the processes in depth and I can certainly say I’m a far better designer now than I was even after a couple of weeks on the course.
I explored areas such as:

  • The composition of shape/ shape organisation to create meaning

  • Positive vs. negative space and the impact on player cognition

  • Leading lines

  • Risk/Reward

I’ve really enjoyed exploring the different concepts throughout the 10 week course, it really pushed me to create bravely- not being afraid of big re-works if the end result improves the level.
The feedback from both Max, my peers and the various folks who volunteered was great, I feel more confident in my skills and definately more aware of my weaknesses in a way that’s helped me grow.
